History of Atlantic Wraps

Our Story

Starting at a very young age our founder Mike Montemurro has been in the car business. At the age of 12 years old he was pumping gas at a local gas station (during the gas lines in the ’70s). After almost 4 years of working in and around the shop, at the age of 16 he went to work for a body shop where his love for cars grew at faster pace and a much larger scale. By 17 he was cutting off quarter panels and skinning doors, while straightening sheet metal at a high level. After moving to a union shop at a car dealer he worked on frame machines straightening chassis, and doing combo work. At the age of 21 he opened his own shop in his home town of Lindenhurst, called Monte’s Auto Body. Providing quality work for local car dealers, and many clients. Soon after he made the decision to sell his shop and pursue hand pinstriping. While vinyl cutters had not even been out yet, all lettering was done by hand. Once again the commitment to quality was the only thing he was concerned about. “I practiced for over a year before I would even think about striping a car” With that single principal he then went to local car dealers and was striping for some of the highest volume dealerships on L.I. Soon after hand lettering was quickly to be a thing of the past as the vinyl cutters were everywhere in the market. “Adapt, or die” was the statement he made as he contemplated going into an area that was foreign to him. Once again the quality of the product was the greatest concern. So after a few years of wraps being lack luster quality, and short term, the materials started to show signs of quality and durability. At that point he was all in. He made the decision that he would keep striping cars by hand with paint, but the lettering was to be vinyl, and eventually wraps. Being in just about every body shop in the Charlotte area to repair painted stripes after the shop had painted the damaged panels, Mike started to see what is now known as PPF. It was seamed everywhere, yellow after just a few short months and overall poor quality. As he started to see these PPF products improve he knew there would be a day the he would be involved with quality installations of quality film. While much of the film was still not exactly the highest quality, Mike knew that the installation of the film was where the difference would be made once the film reached a high quality. Having dealt with many brands of film he knew which films he would install, and which ones he would stay completely away from. Words of his mentor rang out “Cheaper aint always better” To this day Atlantic will never forgo quality for price, period. So for the many years of experience in the auto industry many skills have migrated into what is now Atlantic Wraps. While Mike was the leading edge of talent in the body business, as well as the hand striping aspect of the company there is no shortage of talent in the lineage. His son Michael has grabbed the torch and is the trainer, lead installer, and overall talent of what is now Atlantic Wraps. From being flown to different countries to take part in testing and development of film, to install training for film manufacturers, as well as providing the highest level of installs, Michael has become an indisputable talent in the industry, globally. So the future for Atlantic wraps is brighter than ever with Michael leading the way and following the mantra “Quality first!” His sister Annelise is the one that holds it all together. While scheduling appointments and answering dozens of emails a day she manages to keep things moving through the front door. As you would expect her skillset in the industry is in depth and she has  detailed knowledge, as well as experience in what wrap limitations are, what installations consist of, along with install timelines. Well we covered just about everything except how all of the gears keep turning. Laura is the brains behind the entire front of the house. Payroll, taxes, receivables, payables, she does it all. Nothing could get done without the lights being on, and Laura keeps the lights on! Well there you have the past, present, and future of Atlantic Wraps. The future couldn’t look brighter!
